Job at Jensen Precast - Oct 1979 through Aug 1980

RETURN TO 1970 MAIN MENU

I had not returned to ARC for the fall session, intending to save money and relax for a year. So in early October when I was laid off from WES Construction I wasn't sure what to do. Ingrid's boyfriend had previously worked for Jensen PreCast and referred me there. While most of the jobs were inside the building pouring cement in the forms, I worked outside constructing the reinforcement cages, using a combination of welding and wire wrap.

Often I would not have breakfast or lunch, then rush out at 3:30pm to arrive at Circus Circus $0.99 Lunch Buffet before it ended at 4pm.

It paid well and lasted until I resigned in August 1980 to return to ARC. Sparks was the original location. Now they have expanded to several sites in California: www.jensenprecast.com.

Because I work a Levi jacket they nick-named me "the cowboy." that was bizarre because I did not associate with that at all. The Levi jacket provided reasonable protection from the welding and sharp metal and wires.

I still see their trucks on the road.

This is the indoor pouring the forms. It was noisy and dangerous. I liked my job better.

Aerial view of the facility in Sparks. This is looking West. That is McCarran in the back, and I-80 would be off to the right.
