In the early 1960's Ed and Frances owned 30 rural acres where
the Sacramento International Airport now resides. Frances
challenged the county's offer of $28,850 for the property ($1000
per acre) by bringing a pro per civil action through to a 5 day
jury trial. Ultimately she didn't gain much, but she did save
$$$ by not hiring an attorney. The following are Jan 22, 1964
and Feb 4, 1964 news articles, probably from the Sacramento Bee.
Aaron Epstein, a newspaper
reporter and editor for 45 years, has
joined the Washington Lawyers’
Committee as a part-time volunteer
lawyer with the EEO Project. He
most recently worked as a national
correspondent for Knight Ridder
Newspapers, covering the Supreme
Court, the Justice Department and
national legal issues. Since retiring
from full-time newspaper reporting
in 2000, he has volunteered for a
range of pro bono legal assignments.
He received a B.A. in government
from Dartmouth College, was a
graduate student at the University of
Missouri School of Journalism, and
earned his law degree from the
University of the Pacific’s McGeorge
College of Law in Sacramento.
